i believe that Plato used the prisoners senses as their allies. only them allowing them to used their certain senses proved to work against them. when he talked about how all they saw was the shadows of the people by the fire and the sounds of people behind them it made them feel isolated and confined. yet these very senses that had them confined keep them from going insane. that small amount of almost human contact keeps them going yet destroyed them all the same being so close that you can hear them kills them inside. it provides a reason for many to keep sticking it out that they have a small amount of almost human contact. this gives them hope this also gave them some learning that they have needed and wanted for years which they were not allowed to have. this life style although mean and terrible through these tough time they did get something out of it.
